The Danto Rapids are among the most impressive of the Amazonas Region. You will navigate in "curiara" - a small dug-out canoe - from Puerto Ayacucho, the capital of the Amazonas Territory, along the Orinoco, the Sipapo and the Cuao Rivers to reach these spectacular rapids. CASIQUIARE & RIO NEGRO

The Casiquiare River connects the Orinoco River with the Amazon. The excursion we offer gives you a chance to follow in the footsteps of Humboldt, who 200 years ago explored this river to prove that it united these two mighty river basins. The flight from Puerto Ayacucho down to Tama-Tama, in the upper Orinoco, gives you a first impression of the seemingly endless jungle. From there the boat trip starts through the Casiquiare River, which is characterized by its abundant flora and fauna. Accomodations will be in churuatas of Indian communities or in the open air. You will pass river rocks with pre-Columbian petroglyphs, impressive rapids and beautiful beaches, which invite you to bathe in this tropical environment. Arriving at the Rio Negro we follow the river down to the "Piedra de Cocuy" , which defines the border between Columbia, Venezuela and Brasil in the midst of the Amazonian jungle. The final highlight will be another breathtaking flight over the rainforest with its numerous meandering rivers back to Puerto Ayacucho.

WHITEWATER RAFTING THE ORINOCO

The latest in the Amazonas adventure scene is whitewater rafting down the Atures Rapids, a novel and hair-raising way to increase your adrenaline level. You will be shepherded through mammoth waves in 15 ft rubber rafts, which are especially designed for these waters. Since the rafts are powered by outboard motors, you can return and run down the rapids as many times as you please.
