For Travelers with inquisitive minds

Mérida - Venezuela

After many years of experience organizing and leading trips, one can see how the perceptions and expectations of travelers change with the course of history. In Venezuela, tourism activities have been going on for several decades, somehow, most of the destinations within the country still remain almost untouched and undeveloped (fortunately, as we think now).

In the late’s 70, Venezuela converted from a country exporter of tourists to a receiving country.  Most of the visitors looked for the white sandy beaches on the Caribbean, then we saw how small beautiful paradises like Margarita Island became large centers of five star all inclusive hotels in the most pure way of Acapulco or Miami. Years later, in the middle eighties,  Venezuela started to became popular as “Eco” destination.  Travelers where interested in the dramatically natural contrasts and the diversity in plants and wildlife.  Activities such as, bird watching, wildlife safaris, botanical expeditions, and so on, became popular in the remote jungles, mountains and savannas.  The mind of the inquisitive traveler wanted to go beyond than just laying on the beach and the well known ecotourism current showed the highest rates of growth in the tourist industry.  Actors involved started to use terms like,  protected areas, sustainable tourism, eco travelers, nature trips, etc. At the same time, internet turned into the most important source of information and ecotourists were the main focus to design marketing campaigns and also plans to develop natural areas for tourism.

Ecotourism has been, certainly, a much more environmental friendly way to travel, but again, we, the involved on this social phenomenon are noticing that in the last few years, the mind of the travelers are claiming again for changes, in particular, on the ways the visitors interact with local hosting communities and especially, since most of these communities, where  the “ecotours“ have been taking place,  are very social and cultural sensitive and usually  on indigenous land.

At the present, we realize that the preservation of both, the natural resources and the social aspects of the area visited, are of vital importance for the much stated sustainability of the activity.

Taking this and many others matters into account, is that, us, as a modest initiative and also being aware of our role as ambassadors for the exchange between visitors and communities, would like to introduce an in-depth conception for CONSCIOUS TRAVELLING where the visitor and the community work together and take conscientiousness to minimize the impact on the visited area.  We are proposing a model where the participants must be clear that any of their actions that cause disturbance or bad influence in the community should be avoided.

In order to develop this notion, we invite those ones interested in to get to know our country, not just tourist minded, but in a social-environmental responsible way, to join our  EXPERIENTIAL TRIPS, designed to grant all the actors a more rewarding  and enhanced experience.

Our EXPERIENTIAL TRIPS take place in many types of scenery, but the main target is to know first hand about the real situation of the area visited, either a neighborhood in Caracas to a small indigenous settlement in the Amazon.
